Our Story

Four makers, one boat, and an unreasonable number of spools of filament.

We're Floating Lab Makers: a dad, a mom, a son and a daughter who have been building things for as long as any of us can remember. Some families do crosswords. We do CAD files, laser alignment and the occasional heated debate about thread colors.

Home port is Rocky Top, Tennessee, aboard Leave Right. Let's be honest: not everything is made on the water — a boat is a terrible place to keep a 3D printer farm, and the sewing machine gets seasick. But when we cruise, the projects come along, and the best ideas tend to show up somewhere between the dock lines and the sunset.

The crew

Dad and Son — the Print & Burn Department. They run the 3D printers and the laser engraver, turning "wouldn't it be cool if…" into real things you can hold. One-off designs, a gift nobody else will have, or a few hundred of the same part for your club or business: they love that kind of challenge. If you can describe it, they'll want to make it.

Daughter — Katie's Nifty Gifties. Katie runs her own sewn-goods business inside the family fleet. She makes playful, well-loved items for babies and kids, and she lights up when someone asks for something custom. Her pieces ship straight from her workshop in Dayton, Ohio.

100% to CMA

Mom — the heart of the operation. Mom makes her items for one reason: the Christian Motorcyclists Association (opens in new tab)'s Run for the Son, which funds mission outreach around the world. She covers every cost — materials and her own time — so 100% of the sale price of her items goes to CMA. She'll customize them too, and every cent still goes to the cause. Look for the "100% to CMA" badge in the shop, or browse the full 100% to CMA collection.

Why buy from a family on a boat?

  • Made by hand, by people. Every order is printed, engraved or stitched by one of the four of us.
  • Custom is our favorite word. Want a different name, color or size? Get in touch.
  • Small enough to care. When you message us, a crew member answers — not a bot.
